After much back and forth and eventually postponing this event I have finally reached a decision about our community gathering for this year.
It is short notice only if you didn’t join the event that was originally named ‘Planning of Unidaba 2015’ and setup in February this year via Facebook.
We will be having a mountain unicycling / off-road gathering. The proper UniDaba Convention will be held during the summer of 2016.
The Venue: The Garden Route Trail Park, Barrington (near Sedgefield).
Dates: 24 – 27 September 2015 (The last long weekend for this year).
Registration Cost: R400 to be paid to the park. This includes an annual membership to the park and a goody bag. Alternatively you can just pay day fees which costs more over an entire weekend. Registration is free to Trail Park members.
Accommodation: Camping – bring your camping gear.
Camping Fee: R50 per night for members & R100 per night for non-members.
Food: Self-catering, braai facilities will be set up for the unicyclists. There is also the Trail Park Cafe where you can buy meals during the day.
Event Banter: It’s on Facebook. Best place for people to discuss details (i.e. lifts, sharing camping gear, etc). Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/events/1006406536046073/
Driving – A lift club can be organised for people travelling from Cape Town.
Flying – The closest airport is in George. It is 35km from Sedgefield. I’ve done a search for flights and FlySaFair seem to have the most competitive rates. Book your flights soon as it is over a long weekend.
The Garden Route Trail Park:
This is my favourite park at the moment in SA! It is designed for the unicyclist. Many parks in SA are for the 2 wheelers but this one has a good balance of both. The single track is phenomenal! A little bit of everything from easy to hard. Nice flowing lines that meander in and out of the forests, creeks and hill tops. It’s technical, engaging, pumpy with a some chilled areas. It also has a pump track which most of us have realised, although not perfect for uni’s, is a great work-out. It also has the biggest ramp I have ever seen. 3 Storey’s high dropping into the biggest gap jump you’ve ever seen.
Here’s the link to the park – http://
Please confirm if you will be coming as I need to ensure that enough space is allocated to the Uni community. There will be a MTB fest happening on the same weekend so the park is going to be full of riding energy.
Please invite riders you think may want to attend as there are a lot of people out there that OddWheel has never met.
Lastly, this is where I will be celebrating my birthday this year.
It’s gonna be RAD. Hopefully we’ll be enjoying a delicious camp cake together.
